Eight years of human-AI R&D.
From early conviction to enterprise frameworks—the research journey behind AVA Credit and the methodologies advancing human-AI collaboration.
AVA’s AI Credit® Journey
From Early Vision to Enterprise Reality: 2017–2026
Early recognition of transformer architecture’s potential in financial services. Filed AI Credit® trademark in October 2017, two months after “Attention Is All You Need” was published. Trademark registered October 2019.
Nine systematic R&D trials across 145 live commercial transactions exceeding $150M. Evolved from traditional AI automation to human-AI augmentation. AVA incorporated in Delaware as an AI-enabled credit copilot.
RAG experiments and lessons learned. AVA Credit Inc. incorporated in Canada (2024). Applied AI consulting division established. The name AVA—Accelerated Virtual Analyst—coined in early 2023.
Selected for Perplexity AI Business Fellowship alongside CEOs from NVIDIA, Databricks, Box, and Bridgewater. Published ‘Working With Generative AI’. First enterprise financial services clients onboarded.
AVA didn’t emerge from a pitch deck or a startup accelerator. It was built on eight years of experimentation, failure, and learning at the intersection of AI and financial services. From live transaction trials and failed RAG experiments to insights gained alongside CEOs of NVIDIA, Databricks, and Perplexity in an elite fellowship, every step shaped what AVA would become.
AVA Research began in 2020 with a simple question: how do experienced professionals actually work with AI to get better outcomes? Not in theory — in practice, under real conditions, with real stakes.
Over four years, we conducted systematic trials across 145 commercial transactions totaling $150 million. We documented what worked, what failed, and why. The result is a body of research grounded in operational reality, not laboratory conditions.
“The Rosetta Stone of human-AI collaboration for work” — First Principles Thinking forged from the 2025 Perplexity AI Business Fellowship.
Our commitment is to open source development. Best practices, lessons learned, frameworks, and tools — shared freely to advance the field. We believe human-AI partnership improves when knowledge flows openly.
An academic paper on Core Concepts and the RGI Framework is currently in development with two major research universities. Announcement forthcoming.
About AVA Research
AVA Research represents eight years of human-AI R&D beginning in 2017 when Matthew Dobson filed the AI Credit® trademark two months after Google’s “Attention Is All You Need” paper. The research journey includes systematic trials across 145 commercial transactions totaling $150 million (2020-2023), the Perplexity AI Business Fellowship (2025), and development of frameworks including RGI (Retrieve, Generate, Interact), aiDeck structured prompting, First Principles methodology, and the Speed-Precision Principle. Currently developing academic paper with two major research universities. AVA Credit Inc. was incorporated in Canada in 2024 as the vehicle to continue and commercialize this research.
